Sharks forward Chris Heighington spoke with the media on Wednesday, disputing claims the side 'needs' a loss in the run into the finals.

"We actually spoke about that the other day, if we lose a game and we've done all our preparation right but some how still lose the game, then so be it," Heighington said.

"We don't want to go into a game and to lose a match, having not gotten the preparation and not performing."

Asked of the side's chances of setting a first-time record of more than 19 wins in a row, the veteran forward was quick to rein in the hype.

"We're a long way off that," he said.

"We've got the Roosters this Monday night, and they've been playing really well."
