LeagueTouch Round 5: Club Championship Update

Jason Stanton

The much sought after Club Championship crown is heating up after some mixed results in Round 5. The Championship ladder shows 3 distinct battles forming in sections of the ladder as clubs compete to have LeagueTouch supremacy.

The top of the table rivalry sees De la Salle with a narrow lead over Como-Jannali. Both clubs have an amazing Rugby League community behind them and with 6 teams each competing, this battle will most certainly go down to the final game of the season. De la Salle (85 points) has a 6 point lead over Como-Jannali (79 points) and this represents less than a “one game” result. Every game counts from u/9’s all the way up to Ladies. It has been a great effort by both clubs and all involved with Rugby League in the Shire will be keeping a close eye on this result.

The middle of the Championship table sees Taren Point (58 points) striving for dominance over heaveyweights Cronulla-Caringbah (48 points). Each club has 3 teams competing in the competition and both have a 15’s teams undefeated after Round 5. Taren Point Ladies have performed well though it appears the 15’s division winner could well decide who has bragging rights in this tussle.

With each club having 1 or 2 teams competing this season, Gymea (18 points), Aquinas (16 points) and Bosco (8 points) are in a three way battle of their own. Some early success of the Gymea Ladies team resulted in championship points though Aquinas and Bosco have shown some good form in recent weeks meaning Gymea may not have everything their way this season.

With the rivalries certain to continue, keep an eye on the Championship Table.
