He has a big body and an equally big heart to match, with Sharks forward Junior Roqica taking it upon himself last month to raise money for the Red Cross Cyclone Winston appeal.

Parts of Fiji were devastated by the cyclone, with Roqica quick to respond with efforts to do whatever he could to make the situation somewhat more bearable for those affected in his homeland.

In collecting boots, jerseys and memorabilia from friends across the NRL, Roqica raised $3500 via a series of auctions and through the exposure he created received another $5000 donation to assist with the cause.

This was in addition to the huge amount of building supplies and materials, furniture, clothes, shoes and toys that Roqica and his supporters are in the process of shipping over.

The $5000 donation was well received and will be utilised for those directly affected by the cyclone, as well as in helping to start up a program in schools with the help of Junior’s wife Candice.

The Roqica’s are hoping to set up a buddy school system in which schools in Australia can donate a back pack and school supplies each year to a sister school in Fiji.

The Sharks will help Junior provide information for those individuals and schools wanting to get involved or for anyone looking to find out more.

And with his outstanding efforts as outlined above, it should come as no surprise that the player possessing the most pride in his national jersey this weekend is likely to be Roqica who is set to run out for Fiji against the PNG Kumuls on Saturday night.

Despite playing the first nine rounds of the 2016 season for Newtown in the Intrust Super Premiership, Roqica’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed and has warranted selection for Fiji Bait in the clash with PNG, with the two Pacific nations to play at 5.35pm as the first of two Pacific Tests matches.

The game will be Roqica’s seventh for Fiji.

Roqica will be joined in the Fijian team by the likes of Akuila Uate of the Knights, Kane Evans of the Roosters and Canberra’s Sisa Waqa in what looks to be a strong Bati line up.
