With much said on the matter of how players and officials communicate in the heat of the NRL battle, Sharks hooker Michael Ennis had his say on NRL360 earlier this week, in urging the referees to understand the emotions involved in the game.

"As Captain at times, I found a lot of the calls challenging ... you're out there to win a football game," Ennis said.

"When (a referee's decision) goes against you, you get emotional."

Asked of his opinion as to if referees communicate in the right manner to players, the veteran was blunt -but honest -  in his appraisal of the game's officials.

"No I don't," he said.

"There's so much that goes into a footy game, we live and die by the results ... I understand they make mistakes, but we're in highly emotional positions."
