Luke Lewis’ hit on Matt Moylan defied gravity on a monumental scale on Sunday afternoon.

Momentum is the product of mass and velocity (kg m/s); heavy objects that are moving quickly have large momentum.

When two objects collide, the momentum they possess before the collision will determine their momentum after the collision.

Matt Moylan recieevs the ball at approximately 23 km/hr; his bodyweight at 88kg gives his momentum of approximately 572kg m/s.

Luke Lewis makes the tackle while travelling approximately 21km/hr; his bodyweight at 103kg gives him momentum of 597 kg m/s.

The total momentum involved in the collision is approximately 1170 kg m/s.

Lewis’ 33rd minute tackle was made from the side and at an angle of approximately 40 degrees from vertical, rendering a g-force greater than 15 times gravity!

That is one hit that’s for sure!
