Former Sharks player John Morris has been announced as the Head Coach of the Club’s NYC side for the 2016 season.

Morris, who recorded 300 NRL caps during his career, enjoyed a successful year in 2015 as Head of the Sharks High Performance Unit and Academy and contributing to the success of the SG Ball and Harold Matthews sides in winning both State and National Championships.

Morris said he is excited at the prospect of taking on a new role within the Club and overseeing the development of the next crop of young talent to come through the ranks at the Sharks.

“I’m excited to be given the responsibility of taking on this team in 2016,” said Morris.

“Obviously there’s a lot of young talent within the Club and we need to harness that and turn it into results in the future both on the field in the normal playing season and as a pathway to our elite NRL squad.”

Morris’s 14 year NRL career began with the Newcastle Knights in 2001 before stints at the Parramatta Eels (2003-06), Wests Tigers (2007-09) and finally arriving at the Sharks (2010-2014).

John is an outstanding professional with a high work rate and determination to succeed. He will be an inspirational mentor and role model for the many talented young players at our Club and we wish him well in this next exciting part of his career.
