The Wests Tigers Holden Cup side have scored a resounding 46 points to 20 win over the Sharks.
The Tigers got off to a dream start when in the 4th minute; they kicked and kicked again before regathering an error and scoring adjacent to the points.
Adding the extra two without fail, the visitors looked to extend their lead with an expansive way out of their own end, but spilled the pill and gave the Sharks a prime chance to score.
Sharks five-eighth Jaiden Brown completed the side’s set with a kick towards the North Western corner, and Joshua Addo-Carr found a way to touch down and open the Cronulla account.
With fullback Ryan Cummins unable to convert, the score remained at 6 points to 4.
With both sides failing to complete sets, the stop-start fixture kicked into gear again when Bayley Sironen ran in his first try of the afternoon. The Tigers converted, and their lead stood at 12 points to 4.
In a match with plenty of early action, in the next set of six, Addo-Carr charged down a Tigers kick before regathering and running 70 metres untouched to score.
Cummins made no mistake on his second sight of goal, and slotted the kick to reduce Wests’ lead to 2.
Full of confidence after scoring points, lock forward Jaden Clarke went about attempting a 40/20, and came up trumps in earning the side another set of six.
The hosts would go in again in the next set, and hit the front for the first time of the afternoon. Cummins took his personal tally with the boot to 2 from 3, and the score to 16 points to 10.
The Tigers would soon after go in to run in a treble of tries when Jayden Wheelhouse, Esan Marsters and Sironen crossed in quick succession.
Leading 26 points to 16 at the break, the Brett Kimmorley-coached Tigers started the second half as they finished the first, when Te Maire Martin and Obed Karwhin crossed to extend the margin to 20.
With near on 20 minutes remaining and looking to salvage some pride, the Sharks went in through Clarke who crossed to score in the South Eastern corner of Remondis Stadium
With the margin reduced to 16, the Tigers’ dominance was in no way thwarted and their spirits remained high heading into the back end of the contest.
The visitors would run in yet another try – their eighth of the afternoon – through Junior Tatola.
Tigers’ centre Marion Seve rounded out the afternoon’s scoring, as Wests ran out convincing winners 46 points to 20.
