Building on a dominant first half performance, the Newtown Jets have gone on with the job in the second stanza in registering a much-needed 26-12 win over the Wentworthville Magpies.

The Jets jumped out to a 20-0 half time advantage and while they were only able to add one converted try after the break, they managed to keep the Magpies at arms length in notching their sixth win of the 2015 VB NSW Cup season.

While Sharks-contracted players Junior Roqica, Mitch Brown and Dallas Wells got themselves on the score sheet with tries for the Newtown team, it was hooker Pat Politoni receiving the majority of the accolades for his performance on the day.

The 18th man for the Sharks when they travelled to the Gold Coast last weekend, therefore missing the Jets last start loss to the Bulldogs, Politoni also crossed the stripe for a try in the Newtown win and was named man of the match by radio station Alive 90.5 broadcasting the game.

Young five eighth Wells was also rated by the NSWRL as being amongst his teams best in the win.

The only negative coming from the match was an apparent Achilles tendon injury to winger Jacob Gagan, with further assessment necessary in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury.

Coming into the match in seventh, the victory was a crucial one for the Jets.

Despite only improving one place on the ladder, with the bye next weekend Newtown will be firmly entrenched inside the top eight and within striking distance of the top four approaching the half-way point of the season.

The Jets next assignment will be a match against Wyong in Musswellbrook on Saturday, June 6.
