With an outstanding comeback the Newtown Jets have recovered from a 10-point second half deficit to beat the Manly Sea Eagles 32-26 in their VB NSW Cup clash at Leichhardt Oval.

With the scores locked up at 16-all at half time, the Jets, the Sharks partner club in the 2015 VB NSW Cup competition, saw themselves trailing 26-16 with less than a quarter of the match remaining.

Refusing to panic the Jets then managed to take control of the game, with three tries in the closing 20 minutes seeing them record an impressive come-from-behind win.

Newtown were first on the board with a try in the 14th minute, before Manly took control, three unanswered tries, two of those converted, seeing the Sea Eagles jump out to a handy 16-4 advantage.

Momentum then switched, Mitch Brown scoring the first of a double on the day, with Todd Murphy adding the extras, before another Jets try on the stroke of half time levelled the scores at the break.

Again Newtown had a lapse in concentration early in the second period, falling behind 26-16, before a rear-guard action brought them back into the contest.

Murphy crossed and successfully converted his own four-pointer to narrow the margin to four points and from there it was all the Jets, with the final two tries sealing their second win on the 2015 season.

For the Jets a number of their Sharks-contracted players put a case forward for possible first grade selection, with Mitch Brown crossing for two tries and Todd Murphy again a dominant presence in the halves for the Newtown side.

With two wins from their first four starts the Jets now sit in eight position on the NSW Cup ladder, however their four competition points see them equal with the fourth-placed Wyong but trailing on for-and-against.

Mounties currently lead the NSW Cup with a perfect four from four record, just ahead of the Warriors and Wests Tigers who sit on six points.

The next assignment for the Newtown side is a match with the Wentworthville Magpies at Henson Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3.00pm.
