The Wests Tigers have defeated the Newtown Jets by 36 points to 22 in their NSW Cup trial at Campbelltown Stadium.

A flurry of second-half points from the hosts saw them overcome a spirited Jets line up which boasted six Cronulla Sharks players.

Centre Sami Sauiluma crossed for the first try of the match inside six minutes, before the Tigers hit back through second-rower Salesi Funaki soon after.

Sauiluma continued his impressive start to the half laying on two more four-pointers for his outside man Dallas Wells, who finished the plays with acrobatic efforts.

With the Jets up by 10, Fullback Nathan Gardner extended the margin to 14 when he forced his way over the line from close range.

Queensland Cup signing Todd Murphy converted three goals from his four attempts and controlled the match well before being substituted – along with the rest of the Cronulla players – at the end of the first 40 minutes.

The change of ends mirrored the change of fortunes for the hosts as the Tigers ran in four consecutive tries to take a 30-22 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Tries to Sitaleki Akauola, John Sila and a double to fullback Kurtis Rowe arrested control of the proceedings in what was a lop-sided second half.

Wests rounded out the last of the scoring through hooker Manaia Cherrington, with Josh Drinkwater (5/5) and Akauola (1/1) flawless with the boot.
