In a pointer to the outstanding talent coming through the ranks at the Sharks in 2015, four young under 20’s players from the club have been selected to attend the NSWRL Origin Pathways Training Camp this weekend.

A camp to be conducted under the guidance of NSW VB Blues Coach Laurie Daley, Sharks NYC players Anthony Moraitis, Jack Bird, Brad Dietz and Myles Tuaeli will be amongst the group of elite youngsters from all clubs across in the NRL to assemble at the Narrabeen Sports Academy on Friday afternoon.

The camp is designed by Daley to be an introduction to the rigours of Origin football in the hope that some can use what they learn over the weekend to eventually progress through to the senior elite level in the years to come.

“These youngsters represent the future for New South Wales,” Daley said. “If we want to be successful long-term with State of Origin we have to provide the pathways for our elite juniors.

“Recognising our rising stars and giving them a taste of what it means to play State of Origin and the preparation needed on and off the field is vital. This is a wonderful opportunity for these young players and the sessions we’ve organised are with some of the high-performance team members who helped the NSW VB Blues achieve their State of Origin goals.”

The two-day Pathways Camp will see players participate in training and skills work and also enjoy sessions on the type of attitude and high performance required for State of Origin delivered by several guest speakers.

While the current Australian Schoolboys tour to the UK has ruled out some rising stars, 34 players will attend the two-day camp. Four Sharks local juniors in Jayden Brailey, Ash Nisbet, Jayden Walker Connor Tracey and Queensland recruit Keenan Yorsten were all chosen for the Australian Schoolboys, with Walker unfortunately withdrawing from the tour with a back injury.

Of the players chosen from the Sharks to participate in the Pathways camp Moraitis, is a local Cronulla district junior who has been training with the Sharks NRL squad throughout the summer. Likewise Bird, a highly touted new recruit who joined the club from the Dragons this season, is a part of the Sharks NRL training group.

Moraitis and Bird are both capable of playing either in the centres or backrow.

As for Dietz, the talented hooker who joined the Sharks from the Roosters mid-2014, he has attended a handful of NRL session where he study and work commitments have allowed, while Tuaeli, a big strong back rower who played with the Panthers NYC team last year is new to the Sharks in 2015.
