Despite an improved second half performance the NYC Sharks have failed to overcome a 22-0 half time deficit in going down 38-16 to the Canberra Raiders.

A couple of defensive lapses in the first period proved costly, with the Canberra side crossing the stripe three time in running up what proved to be a match winning lead.

The Sharks came out with more enthusiasm in the second period and were immediately rewarded for their efforts with their first points coming after a determined 25-metre run from centre Jamayne Isaako.

After running the ball under the uprights for the try Isaako was able to kick the easy conversion and the Sharks now trailed 22-6.

Another Canberra try added to their lead to make it 28-6, before Finaly Dibley went over for the Sharks second after a clever backline movement. Isaako was on target with the kick from wide out with the score 28-12 in favour of the Canberra side.

The Raiders added two more tries to their tally to blow the score out to

38-12 before Isaako went over for his second four pointer of the afternoon near full time.

While well beaten the Sharks effort, couldn’t be faulted considering the team was decimated on the eve of the match when a handful of players were called up into the NSW Cup side.

Isaako with his two tries and strong running with the football was amongst the Sharks best on the day, winning the players player award, while Jaden Clarke was the recipient of the coaches award.

The NSW Sharks slip one place to 15th with the loss, with their next match against the Cowboys in Townsville next Saturday evening.
