Michael Gordon has been in strong form both with the boot and in general play in recent weeks, with the Sharks 2013 Player of the Year again one of the most consistent performers for his team throughout this current season.

Gordon crossed for a first half try in the loss to the Knights last week, adding three goals from three attempts, while just one week earlier he kicked the Sharks to victory with five conversions from five, some from difficult angles, in the remarkable comeback win over the Roosters.

Throw in a four from four effort against the Broncos and it has been an impressive month for the goal kicking fullback.

And while his recent contribution has certainly helped the team cause, this Friday night Gordon gets the chance to tick off a couple of personal point scoring milestones when the Sharks take on the Cowboys at Remondis Stadium.

Gordon needs just two more points for 200 First Grade points for the Sharks and only another four to clock up 1,000 NRL career points. His current 996 point tally has come from 67 tries and 364 goals.

This Friday night however, against a North Queensland team intent on chalking up their first away win of 2014, Gordon and his Sharks teammates will all need to be on their game should they hope to register a victory.

Led by Johnathan Thurston, the Cowboys are a potent attacking outfit, with current Sharks coach James Shepherd looking for an 80-minute effort from his side after they squandered a comfortable half time advantage at their last start.

The Sharks will be without skipper Paul Gallen, but on the flip side after a lengthy stint on the sidelines with injury, front rower Andrew Fifita should be better for the hit out last Sunday and raring to go against the Cowboys.

After naming a six man bench earlier in the week Shepherd will need to trim down his squad down to 17 ahead of kick off, with the Sharks experiencing no injury concerns amongst the 19 players selected.

A decision on the final make up of the side will be made tomorrow.

The match with the Cowboys takes on extra significance, with a number of promotions on the night centering around RiseForAlex Round in support of injury Newcastle player Alex McKinnon.

Wrist bands will be on sale, with other fundraising activities taking place.

The Sharks will also wear jerseys featuring the Chronic Pain Australia logo on the front, in recognition of National Pain Week which begins on July 21.

The Sharks v Cowboys clash is scheduled to get underway at 7.40pm, with no live telecast available in the Sydney market. The game will be shown on delay on Channel 9 at around 9.30pm.

Gates to Remondis Stadium open at 5.00pm, with the NYC match getting underway at 5.15pm.
