Sharks smashed by the Chooks

Fielding a depleted line up due to injuries to a number of key players, the Sharks have suffered a heavy 40-0 defeat at the hands of he Sydney Roosters.
The Sharks started slowly and things hardly got any better from there as the Roosters ran through what was at times some ordinary Cronulla defense in scoring seven tries on the night.
It was a disappointing performance and one which will have coach Shane Flanagan hoping many of his injured stars will be back on deck sooner rather than later.
Almost before the patrons had managed to find their seats the Roosters were on the board when Boyd Cordner crashed through some ordinary Sharks goal line defense to touch down close to the posts.
Maloney converted and after just three minutes the Roosters were in front 6-0.
Worse was to come in the first half for the Sharks. In quick succession Jake Friend, Daniel Tupou and Shaun Kenny-Dowell crossed with the home team in front 22-0 after just 20 minutes of the game had elapsed.
The Sharks battled hard in the next period of the game without managing a result, until a Roosters try on the stroke of half time, a second four-pointer to Cordner, sent them to the break ahead 28-0.
The story of the first half not surprisingly was about the defense, with the Sharks having missed more than 20 tackles to just two misses from the Roosters.
And the second half hardly got any better with Sam Moa scoring under the posts for his first try of the season, before Mitch Aubusson cruised through from 25 metres to run the score up to 40-0 with 20 minutes of the match still remaining.
The Sharks showed some pride late in the match to deny the Roosters any more points but on the whole it was a tough night for a well-beaten Sharks team.
Next week the Sharks host the Panthers at Remondis Stadium, with a number of the injured brigade slated for a return.
Boyd Cordner 2, Daniel Tupou, Shaun Kenny-Dowell, Jake Friend, Mitch Aubusson, Sam Moa tries, James Maloney 6 goals
