NSW Cup Sharks snatch a draw
Saturday 20 July 2013 6:25 PM
A 78th minute try to fullback Kurt Mann has seen the NSW Cup Sharks snatch a thrilling 16-all draw with the Illawarra Cutters.
Seemingly headed for their second loss of the 2013 season the Sharks refused to die and when Mann scored, converted by Matt McGahan, the Cronulla side had grabbed one point and in the process widened their gap at the top of the competition table to seven points.
The match began in promising fashion for the Sharks when lock Tom Robinson crossed, with McGahan adding the extras and 11 minutes in the Sharks had a 6-0 lead.
The Cutters leveled the score before Junior Rociqa put the Sharks back in front at 10-6, an advantage they would maintain until the half time break.
Two tries to the Cutters in the opening 15 minutes of the second half set the Illawarra boys up for an upset result, until the Mann try in the dying moments saw the teams emerge with one competition point each.
While not necessarily what the Sharks had in mind, was a good effort considering the drain on their player talent due to the injury crisis affecting the NRL squad.
With a loss by the second placed Newcastle today the Sharks extended their lead at the top of the table to seven with seven matches remaining in the season.
