The Cronulla Sharks today announced the signing of former Parramatta Eels prop forward, Josh Cordoba, on a one-year-deal.
The 25-year-old returns to the NRL after a stint in the English Super League with Hull FC last season.
Cordoba’s signing comes as the Sharks look to bolster their ranks in search of their first NRL premiership.
Originally from Shellharbour, Cordoba is an intuitive player who made his NRL debut in round one of 2006 and played 61 NRL games with the Eels before leaving for the UK.
“Josh is an excellent addition to our club and he will really add to our forward pack,” Sharks Football Manager, Darren Mooney, said.
“He has both NRL and Super League experience which is a bonus, adding to our depth up front. He’s not the biggest player but he’s a tough, hard-working front rower who won’t take a backwards step.
“He’s also got a good, quick play-the-ball and is looking for the chance to play in the NRL again. Ricky and the coaching staff are really looking forward to working with him.”
Having already hit the training paddock with his new team, Cordoba is feeling comfortable in the black, white and blue with some of his past teammates sweating it out by his side.
“I think the opportunity to play some first grade this year was a big factor in coming to the club and I’m just looking forward to getting on the paddock and playing consistent footy for the Sharks,” Cordoba said.
“I know a few of the boys from my days at Parra' and it’s also a great chance to work under Ricky Stuart. He’s been the coach for both Australia and NSW in the past and he’s obviously done a lot of good for the players, so hopefully he can really help me too.”
