Warriors' Toyota Cup halfback Shaun Johnson kicked a penalty on fulltime to snatch a 30-all draw and a share of the points against the Sharks at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday.
Earlier, the home side's left winger Elijah Niko grabbed a first-half brace and Johnson converted one as they shot out to a 10-0 lead.
The visitors fired back with two quick tries of their own for Adam Goode and left-winger Joe Rokoqo.
Sharks' halfback Chad Townsend had a sharp night with the boot, converting both attempts.
Their momentum kept rolling as fullback Nathan Gardner dotted-down two minutes from the break and Townsend was again up to the task giving his side an 18-10 half-time advantage.
It was the Warriors who started the second-half strongly however, with standoff Sean Scott pinching a four-pointer and Johnson converted to draw the home side within striking distance.
Warriors' second-rower and captain Ben Henry said follow me as he crashed over and Johnson converted to put his charges in the box seat at 22-18 with half-an-hour to play.
Their lead was short-lived as the topsy-turvy affair continued.
Sharks' lock Tyrone Peachey and Townsend combined to put their side up 24-22 minutes later.
Further twists came in the form of a powerful display from Warriors' centre Siuatonga Likiliki who put the Warriors back in front.
Johnson again added the extras and with 16 minutes remaining, at 28-24, this one was set for a cliff-hanger.
But Peachy collected his brace one minute later to regain the ascendancy and Townsend did not fail with the conversion as, yet again, the lead changed hands. The Sharks were back in front 30-28.
Both sides launched into an attacking frenzy in a bid to claim outright points, but when the final hooter sounded, Johnson and the Warriors chose to shoot for goal.
Cool and calm under pressure the No.7 nailed the 30-metre attempt to end a thrilling match.
