McHappy Sharks Help Kids
Monday, 16 November 2009
It was the day the Cronulla Sharks got to flip burgers, serve Big Mac’s and help raise money for charity- all in the name of Ronald McDonald.
After returning from their four-day camp in Kiama and pushing through an early morning training session, twenty players from the Sharks NRL squad donned the yellow arches on Saturday for McHappy Day.
The Sharks spread themselves over six Sutherland Shire McDonald's restaurants to help create a fun atmosphere by greeting customers and taking orders from behind the counter.
McHappy Day is one of Australia’s largest annual fundraising events where money is raised for the Ronald McDonald House Charities to support seriously ill children and keep them close to their families.
Debbie Smith from Taren Point McDonald’s commended the player's efforts and was very impressed by the way they all involved themselves.
“They were absolutely wonderful. I was very pleased with them and how they moved around the store for me. They were serving customers, collecting money and they very upbeat,” she said.
“They were very well received by everyone in the store and even the old ladies thought it was lovely to see such muscley men walking around with smiles on their faces.
“They were just so good, even sitting down to have a chat with families and having photos taken.
Figures from the day haven’t been released yet, but an estimated $2.5 million is expected to have been raised.
